Day 199

Okay, not the fanciest photo by any means, this is our own 365 project, so it wouldn't be today if I didn't post this.

This is what you get when it's 100 degrees outside, and you tell the kids no more xbox or computers for a while! Geesh!

Here I have my entire Costco family size package of red cups stacked past my light fixtures. Oh yes, it can be done!

Thanks, son.

Day 192

Sorry, I've been a little AWOL. My oldest just came back from Uganda last night. I've been running around like a "chicken with my head cut off" and if you're on my facebook, or know me, you know why that saying is so funny to our family right now! If not, I'll tell you. My oldest was the girl who didn't want to starve in Uganda, apparently. They had chicken for dinner one night with the orphanage, and that's just the norm. She and another team member (a guy) volunteered to.. well.. do what needed to get done to get dinner rolling. Let's just say, she wouldn't have starved in the Little House on the Prairie days. I would have.

This photo is from our lake house visit. I have been taking photos everyday, but none that I chose to put up on my 365 blog. Now that I am halfway through this, I'm still trying to decide where I'm going with this as far as a theme. I've decided, I really don't have one. Random photos on random days. :)

Day 185

Happy 4th of July! We were planning on going to the "real" fireworks show, but at the lake they really did a nice job. I grabbed my camera, and did an impromptu session of some "works." A couple came out, and these are my favorite. The little swirly ones..

Day 178

I love daisies!! These are little mini ones. They spread like wildfire! I brought them back as little shoots from my dad's place in WA several years ago. I've transplanted, weeded, picked.. everything you can think of. I don't think I will ever be barren of these little guys. But, I love 'em! They sit in between my hostas and sedum.
They greet me walking to the garbage, and make me smile!

Day 171

Switching it up a bit here. Trying out a little bit more plain logo stamp, more masculine for baseball photos, or for business..etc.

But, I'm still infatuated with the "weed" of yesterday! :) The seeds are huge, and I'm throwing them all in the back by the garbage. Maybe they'll take? haha I know.. some of you are horrified.

Day 164

We have a million ways of saying, "A family that _____ together, stays together!" We yell this out while doing all sorts of things all year. But on this day, "A family that puts a trampoline together, stays together!" is our motto for today. I also got the expected "Hey, it might be more efficient to help put this together than take pictures." Ya ya ya.....

We finally got it! We waited almost a week and a half. The playset is long gone, but we are thrilled to have something else the kids can't wait to get out to do. Any way they can get rid of excess energy, the better!

Day 157

More baseball! I would not be "being true" to myself if I didn't have half of my 365 stalked with baseball photos. I am trying to be more selective, but also challenging myself to get some better plays. This also means paying more attention to what's going on, and yes.. I actually knew what inning we were in the other night!

My son is pitching, and this particular game picked off a kid at second. Sweet move! Guess I was talking, because I kinda missed it. Great play, but then I worked on trying to recreate the scene a little bit with this one.

Day 150

Last post of four today! I am still excited about my weekend. I hope that you all have a blessed and safe Memorial Day today. We are having some friends over for a bbq, but before we do that, some yard work has to be done. I captured my husband teaching our youngest how to mow. Precious! I will love this photo for a long time... these are the moments, right?

I walked out onto the porch with such confidence today! Guess what MeRa Koh's workshop is called? Confidence Workshop. Yep, it works! I set my settings, metered, even knew why, and voila! A great SOOC photo.. just like I wanted it! I'm liberated. Really!

Day 136

Second post of the day. Yay! I'm caught up.

I have been thinking about an article I read, that I cannot find now, about taking photos of everyday things. Your routine, what walking out your front door looks like in every season, etc. I have really wanted to get what some of those things are, but we live in the city, and right out the front door isn't as pretty as one might think. So I didn't do it for a while. But, in the back of my mind, I might really appreciate this one day.

So here I have it. What I see out my front door every morning. My flowers, the sidewalks, my van, the neighbors houses, and whatever little critter can get away fast enough up the gorgeous maple trees. These maple trees are special because all 3 of my kids have climbed them. They've had swings hung from them, they've had friends swing from the branches, and it reminds me of the Shel Silverstein poem "The Giving Tree." But in this case, the giving trees.

The Giving Tree
by Shel Silverstein

Once there was a tree..... and she loved a little boy.  And every day the boy would come and he would gather her leaves and make them into crowns and play king of the forest.  He would climb up her trunk and swing from her branches and eat apples. And they would play hide-and-go-seek.  And when he was tired, he would sleep in her shade. And the boy loved the tree.......very much.  And the tree was happy.
But time went by.  And the boy grew older.  And the tree was often alone.  Then one day the boy came to the tree and the tree said, "Come, Boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be happy."
"I am too big to climb and play," said the boy.  "I want to buy things and have fun.  I want some money.  Can you give me some money?"

"I'm sorry," said the tree, "but I have no money, I have only leaves and apples.  Take my apples, Boy, and sell them in the city. Then you will have money and you will be happy." And so the boy climbed up the tree and gathered her apples and carried them away.  And the tree was happy.
But the boy stayed away for a long time... and the tree was sad.  And then one day the boy came back and the tree shook with joy and she said, "Come, Boy, climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and be happy."
"I am too busy to climb trees," said the boy. "I want a house to keep me warm.  I want a wife and I want children, and so I need a house.  Can you give me a house?"
"I have no house," said the tree. "The forest is my house, but you may cut off my branches and build a house.  Then you will be happy." And the boy cut off her branches and carried them away to build his house.  And the tree was happy.
But the boy stayed away for a long time. And when he came back, the tree was so happy she could hardly speak. "Come, Boy," she whispered, "Come and play."
“I am too old and sad to play," said the boy. "I want a boat that can take me far away from here. Can you give me a boat?"
"Cut down my trunk and make a boat," said the tree. "Then you can sail away...... and be happy." And so the boy cut down her trunk and made a boat and sailed away.  And the tree was happy.... but not really.  And after a long time the boy came back again.
"I am sorry, Boy," said the tree, "but I have nothing left to give you.  My apples are gone."
"My teeth are too weak for apples," said the boy.
"My branches are gone," said the tree. "You cannot swing on them.”
"I am too old to swing on branches," said the boy.
"My trunk is gone," said the tree. "You cannot climb."
"I am too tired to climb," said the boy.
"I am sorry," sighed the tree. "I wish that I could give you something ---
but I have nothing left. I am just an old stump."

"I don't need very much now," said the boy. "just a quiet place to sit and rest. I am very tired."

"Well," said the tree, straightening herself up as much as she could, "Well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest." And the boy did.  And the tree was happy.

Day 129

"Hey mom! If you want, I can grab your camera and take a picture up here, it's really pretty!"

She is just too sweet! :) I graciously declined. Something about the way she scales up that tree like she's got spiked boots on... I'm sure I am missing out on something spectacular from that view. It's about 8:00pm and we were just hanging out on the front porch steps enjoying the warmer breezes.

I have a ton of photos of my flowers, neighbor's trees..etc. But, sometimes I think I miss out on everyday fun just trying to get that perfect photo. I chose this one because I just love it. She's talking to me, she's explaining in detail what she sees, she's offering to help... like she always does. This is her heart, and I love her!

Day 122

Second post of the day...

I am pretty sure this is a Japanese Maple. I love the look of the blossoms with the new leaves. They look like beautiful butterflies resting on the branches. We used to have one, but the neighbors would use it as 2nd base in our front yard when we weren't home. So the one side of it was all worn out where they would hang onto it. It finally died. I was sad, eventually I will get a new one..

Day 115

Almost everything at a firehouse is a great photo op. My camera was in the car, and I thought, "C'mon, I can't run for my camera every time I see something I want!" So I resisted.. for a while. I don't know what it was, you know how you have that nagging "I want the shot, but it's probably not necessary" sort of feeling? I walked back to my car, grabbed my camera and ventured back to the sets of endless shelves of hoses ready for action

They had all sorts of character. I loved the colors, the rugged quality, the faded numbers, and how they were lined up all ready to go!

Hence, my Day 115 shot.

Day 108

Today I cleaned, for tomorrow... we get a piano! I started with the guest room, as that is where we shall keep it. I think. Hubby is gone until late, and it's where I really want it!

When I was little, we had one in the basement. I was happy we had one, but not that inviting. I would love the kids to just sit down and play where it's warm, and see where their genius minds may take them. ;)

Long story short, I caught some more spring time photos just out my front door. That's all I did for today, other than unearth some baby bunnies as we were cleaning up the back yard by the play set. They are happily tucked into the baby fisher price garden under the slide. I will snap some photos of them in better lighting. They were precious!

Day 94

It's a gray skies,

                  threatening rain,

                            pizza-for-lunch kinda day.

This is the easiest thing to do in the world my kids love it because they can do it all on their own, and it tastes so good!  It takes a big 3 minutes to prepare.

Easy Peasy Pizza
(your choice toppings, but this is what is in the photo)

1 loaf of Italian Bread - sliced, bakery section
1 can pizza sauce - your preference
1 pkg mini pepperoni
Mozzarella cheese
(bake at 375 for 12 minutes)

Really quick, a long time family friend and I just became reacquainted on facebook. It was so fun to reconnect with her as I've been chatting with her mom a little here and there. I told her some fun memories I have of their place when I was younger, and she had contacted me because her mom showed her my 365.
She just started  DAY 1 last night! I'm so proud of her!
Please add her and help her get started with this awesome thing we're all doing! I'm sure she'd appreciate the encouragement as I bragged you guys UP! You can find her at Jeanna Geniesse Photography blog. Thanks everyone!!

Day 80

Hello my fellow 365'ers! Bless our little hearts we're 80 days in!

I was off to my daughter's first softball game of the season today, but as I was walking to the car, I got the call that it was canceled. From my daughter, mind you.. not the actual school, or coach. Isn't that odd? Anyway, off to chase those darting robins all over my yard trying to get a shot (as I love Robins!).

Didn't get a good one.

So here is my neighbor's cute weather vane. I've decided I really like them. I shall be off to find more!

Day 73

It's just before sunset, but I just had to take photos of this. My neighbor has this tree. I have to tell you, it's one of the most breathtaking sites to behold when it blooms. Her magnolia tree has people stopping to take pictures, people on walks just stop and stare. It takes up her entire front yard, and once it blooms, it stays for a quick time, and is gone again. We really take advantage of the beauty it possesses when we drive around the corner each day.

Every year I keep telling myself, I'm going to get each step of the process with that thing. And, every year, I forget! Not this year. I will start adding these photos to my buds at the bottom when I get them. Eventually I will have a cool collection of these things we rarely have time to notice whether big or small.

I visited with our neighbor, she's such a sweet lady, and she wasn't aware of any changes as of yet. I walked her up to the branches and showed her that the buds looked just like velvet. They also reminded me of a huge tear drop, christmas lights, or a soft artist's brush.

I cannot wait to show you when they open, plus the massive tree from which it will bloom. All in all, there is beauty in everything. I'm actually glad spring seems to be taking it's own sweet time. So much to look at that we would forget to appreciate. So from one photographer's mindset to another, we can enjoy each step of the process from God's amazing creation!

Day 66

Slacked off in the photo department today. No buds to track their growth, but instead relaxed, did laundry and ran the kids to where they needed to go. Painted the youngest one's toenails, since she lovingly rubbed lotion on my feet last night. That's love, because I run the garbage out in my bear feet, and the concrete LOVES that!
She suggested my 365 photo be her purple polka dotted toenails. Well, here they are! Since the composition was horrible, I added a texture, and just had a little fun with it.
